When your mom is one of the biggest supermodels of all time, it kind of feels like a rite of passage to walk in a major fashion show yourself one day. For Kaia Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s spawn, that’s exactly true.
The 16-year-old was cast by designer Raf Simons to walk the Spring 2018 runway show for Calvin Klein in New York City, and just as suspected, the teen nailed her fashion week debut. Life has really come full circle — it was Calvin Klein who helped kick-start Cindy’s career back in the ’90s. Talk about following in your mother’s footsteps.
Kaia, did your ma offer up any pre-show advice on how to smize, swing your hips, or pose at the end of the catwalk? Or does this kind of thing just come naturally when you’re a supermodel’s daughter? We wouldn’t know, but if her perfectly poised face (which, yes, is kind of like looking at a time machine and seeing Cindy strut down the runway a few decades ago… they’re identical!) is any indication, we’re going to bet it’s a little both. Kaia was outfitted in a black-and-white button-down paired with slouchy canary yellow trousers and looked just as confident as the more experienced models in the show.
Pre-show, Kaia and her model pals used free time to take pics for Insta, obv.
The teen has been praised for her effortless sartorial sense on the street and for scoring major magazine covers, but you can’t say you’ve really made it made it as a model unless you’ve got a runway show under your belt.
After making her debut at Calvin Klein this week, Kaia then went on to open the Alexander Wang show (in an awesome all-white ensemble, NBD):
And then walked Rihanna’s Puma x Fenty show:
All parents are proud of their children’s successes, but you’ve got to imagine that Cindy is over the moon watching her daughter slay on the runway just as she once did.
