Mixologist Chantelle Gabino shows us how make three classic cocktails with a Canadian twist!

Canadian Ol' Fashioned

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 2oz rye whiskey
  • Canadian Maple Syrup to taste (about a bar spoon or teaspoon)
  • 2 dashes of bitters
  • Ice
  • Orange peel and oils (star anise or cinnamon), for garnish

 

WHAT YOU DO:

  1. Build and stir in Double Old Fashioned glass.

Maple Mule

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 1.5 oz Canadian Whisky or vodka
  • .5 oz lemon juice
  • .5 - .75 oz of maple ginger syrup
  • 3 oz soda water
  • 3-5 dash of bitters on top (float)
  • Mint or Rosemary in cocktail, for garnish 

WHAT YOU DO:

  1. Make a ginger syrup with maple, water, and fresh ginger.  Heat and cool.

Canadiana Punch

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 3-4 citrus of your choice
  • 180 mL caster sugar
  • 180 mL citrus juice
  • 1 750 mL bottle of spirit, your choice
  • Ginger tea, kombucha or tannic teas, for a strong punch
  • 1 l of water, sweet fruit juices, soda water, tonic, etc. for a weak punch
  • Ice
  • Nutmeg
  • Spices, citrus slices, cucumber, berries, etc., for garnish

WHAT YOU DO:

  1. Peel 3-4 citrus with a vegetable peeler, place in a mason jar, cover with caster sugar, muddle a bit, seal and leave over night.
  2. Add citrus juice to the mason jar with oleo in it, shake until dissolved and pour into punch bowl.
  3. Add spirit of choice.
  4. Skip this step if making non-alcoholic punch. Add other ingredients, depending on how strong you want your punch.
  5. Grate 1 whole nutmeg over the bowl, add garnishes Add garnish.
