The relationship between Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart and the entertainment media has really been stressing us out lately and the couple-or-maybe-not-a-couple didn’t make things any easier by not showing up to the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night. Despite scoring the Choice Ship Award for their turn as fictional couple Jughead and Betty on Riverdale (AKA Bughead), the two didn’t grace the adoring (and veeery curious) public with their presence. We get that this isn’t about us, but come oooon.

If you’re worried about what seems like yet another indication the real-life couple might have (maybe but probably not) broken up, allow us to ease your fears. Judging by Instagram stories, the two weren’t spending solo time to get over the devastating breakup, they were, in fact, hanging out together (with a lot of the Riverdale cast) at a cabin celebrating the birthdays of Cole, Casey Cott and Madelaine Petsch. Sounds good to us!

But that’s enough about what didn’t happen at Teen Choice, let’s focus on what did. ICYMI, here are the buzziest moments from the 2019 Teen Choice Awards.

JO BROS 4 EVA

So this little boy band called the Jonas Brothers is kind of hot right now (weird, we know) and they were able to take a night off their Happiness Begins world tour to accept their Decade Award for essentially defining the teen-hoods of two generations. They used their speech to send an anti-bullying message to their young fans (and also the old ones, tbh). They added that Teen Choice will always hold a special place in their hearts because their first-ever award was one of those iconic surfboards waaay back in 2008. They also won Choice Music Group and Choice Summer Group this year.

TAYLOR: OUR FAVE COUNTRY CAT MOM

What, is this 2010? Taylor has been rocking a Sugarplum Fairy aesthetic as of late, but she took it threw it back with a country-star-meets-Southern-mom look that had us sort of thinking of “Tim McGraw” but also Lil Nas X. If that’s not the most 2019 thought we’ve ever had, we don’t know what is.

Tay accepted the Icon Award which was a characteristic Teen Choice surfboard, Swift-ified to feature “The Itty Bitty Pretty Kitty Committee” (aka her three cats). She began her speech by supporting the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team in their pursuit of equal pay and then thanked her fans for letting her do what she loves doing. She also slipped in the hot info that her next single, “Lover,” is coming out on Friday. Way to bury the lead, Taylor!

ROBERT DOWNEY JR IS ALWAYS DOING THE MOST

We love RDJ for innumerable reasons, but the biggest one is because he is unapologetically himself in a way that seems to defy all comprehension of the human mind. He accepted the award for Choice Movie Actor (because duuuuuh) and was presented the award by a group of “Iron Man super-fans” who quickly turned into his tiny entourage. He hung out with them for the rest of the night backstage, celebrating one Iron Man’s birthday, giving the whole crew candy (which we’re sure their parents were thrilled about) and generally just being himself. Also, our favourite new PG way to respond to a situation is “Whoa, guys, this is nuts.”

SARAH HYLAND AND DR. PHIL’S SON HAVE A SONG

In possibly the most confusing series of events from the night, there was a performance by Jordan McGraw (who is Dr. Phil’s son, btw) featuring a group of dancing beach balls and one giant sparkly one from which a singing Sarah Hyland emerged (yes, of Modern Family and just-getting-engaged-to-Wells-Adams-from-The-Bachelor-franchise fame).

It’s called “Met At a Party” and it’s out now.

ONE REPUBLIC WITH THEIR HIT . . . FROM 2013?

As if the presence of Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man wasn’t enough of a trip back to the early 2010s, One Republic opened their set with “Counting Stars” which came out in 2013. Obviously it’s a bop in any year, but weird choice, right?

We’re not complaining about the trip down memory lane though. We love a good TBT (or TBS?).
