Riverdale’s favourite redhead is no more.
Archie Andrews, 73, was shot today after throwing himself in the path of a gunmen. The freckle-faced comic book icon found himself in a dangerous situation after an argument erupted between his openly-gay friend Kevin Keller and his would-be assailant. Keller, a former veteran-turned senator, has recently been ramping up efforts to tighten gun control and ease restrictions around same-sex marriage in the Riverdale community.
Witnesses say the argument started over some of these new proposed gun laws. Ironically, once the conflict escalated, the man pulled out a firearm of his own. Archie quickly sprang into action and jumped in the way, taking a bullet directly to the chest. His closest friends are still grappling with the terrifying incident:
“I was just stuffing my face with these 8 hamburgers when the bullets started flying,” witness Jughead Jones said. “But after Archie died…it’s like there’s an even bigger hole in my stomach. It’s like I’m emotionally hungry.”
“He obviously liked me better than Betty, anyway,” Archie’s friend Veronica Lodge said. “That #!%&@ never had a chance.”
Police say that the gunmen had been stalking Keller for some time, but haven’t released any other details.
Archie’s is still expected to live on in “teenage” form, but his death will ultimately conclude the Life with Archie series. Only one other issue will be produced, and it will jump ahead one year to show how the cast of Riverdale is coping with the massive loss.
Rest in peace, Archie.
