Is this the hottest new bar trend?

And why didn’t we think of it first? A hybrid of two hard liquors is causing a bit of a stir in the booze industry.

Developed by a father-daughter duo in Birmingham, Alabama, Red Eye Louie Vodquila is made of Ultra Supreme Vodka and Super Premium Mexican Tequila, blended in small vats, macerated together at high temperatures, then filtered.

The stuff is apparently pretty good. It recently won silver at the prestigious 2014 International Wine and Spirit Competition.

So how does it taste? While the company describes its Red Eye Louie as “refreshingly smooth”, one blogger has declared it’s more like “a dirty martini or a spiked barrel of pickle juice”. Whatever your palate prefers, remember this stuff is 80 proof and you’ll get buzzed pretty darn quick.

So, unless you want to spend the next day with your head against the cold tile of a bathroom floor, you’ll want to sip slowly.
