Forget spending a small fortune on some new, ordered-online costume. Scare your Halloween squad with a makeup look stolen straight from social media. Yeah, you’ll need some patience, and a colourful makeup palette (Harry Potter brushes, optional), but the how-to videos uploaded to the interwebs, by amateur and expert makeup artists alike, are seriously impressive.

Here are 17 of the most awesome DIY Halloween makeup tutorials for looks that you can actually pull off this Halloween.

The first male Cover Girl model, James Charles gives us a great, cheeky Halloween face that frightens and makes a seriously bold statement.

The creep factor is high even with just two colours of makeup: red and white. Use a red powdery texture around the eyes and hairline, and blend liquid red below the eyes and mouth. Highlight with white. Boom!

Eva Lamorte’s “Marked Witch” makeup look is creepy and beautiful all at the same time.

🕸will you still love me when I’m no longer young⚓️️ Hi Frands! Thanks so much for the love on my Marked Witch! Here’s a little vid action of the look! And so is her “Help Me” look. It really is all about the blending… and ultra unnerving yellowed teeth.

Glambyroxy does a seriously mean pink skeleton. Intricate shading optional, but highly recommended.

My first Halloween video is now up on my channel ❤️ 😘😍⚡️👻 link in my BIO Major thank you to the one and only @djpester for all the help with my pics and videos !!! ❤️Wearing my pink enacted @camoeyes Aqua activated paint from @officialsnazaroo and @mehronmakeup paradise paint @nyxcosmetics liner and wonder pencil #hypnaughtypower #mua #kyliejenner#kyliecosmetics #powerofmakeup #lashes #slave2beauty #hairtutorial #norvina #makeupbymario #glamrezy #lookamillion #vegas_nay #brian_champagne #laura_143 #dressyourface #wakeupandmakeup #jeffreestar #camoeyes #jeffreestarcosmetics #glam #100daysofmakeup #anastasiabeverlyhills #makeupartistsworldwide #allmodernmakeup #hudabeauty #vegas_nay #hypnaughtymakeup #halloweenmakeup

Minions are still totes adorbs, right? (And we’re still saying “totes adorb,” right?)

My kids must have watched this movie a zillion but even so who doesn’t love minions 😃

We’re sure Suicide Squad‘s Harley Quinn will be a popular Halloween costume. Maybe more so than Hillary and Trump, though not likely.

A cartoon-y look can be the perfect mix of creepy and cool, and this one-sided exposed-teeth look is the perfect example.

Super creepy. Super awesome. This quick and effective DIY makeup lesson (and your kids’ nightmares) comes from Emily Clayton (aka @vanityvenom).

This one’s not too complicated and not too scary. Just perfect for the mom with young children. Makeup artist Jessica Rose calls this the Cutie Pie Pumpkin look, and Cutie Pie it is.

Artist @makeup_mars gives us another dead-sexy female joker how-to on her Instagram page.

Here’s a cute and creative version of Emma Bloom from the new film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, put together by @jordanhanz’ mad skills. It looks challenging but doable–TBH, we’d be happy with just one or two of these painted-on bubbles.

Hey guys, Happy Loop Day! I’m partnering with FOX to bring you a series of peculiar makeup looks in honor of the release of @peregrinesmovie! I was incredibly inspired by the many different characters, and all of the special traits that makes each one unique. The movie is directed by Tim Burton, and we all know just how much of an impact his films have had on the world of makeup and transformation. The characters are much like ourselves with different peculiarities, and these make us powerful. Today’s transformation video is on how to create your own Emma Bloom makeup look. In the first scene of the trailer she uses her power to fill an entire sunken ship with breathable air. This scene inspired me to produce the bubbles in paint. Show me how you express your peculiarity and use #StayPeculiar

You’re going to need ALL the blue makeup to nail Two Face, but it’ll be worth it. Trust us.

Yeah, these pop art faces were big on the Halloween circuit last year, but we’re employing them again this year because they’re so darn easy and so darn cool.

Liquid latex, safety pins and red lipstick go a long way. @katosu shows us how.

Okay, so this one is less about the makeup and more about the googly eyes (the Dollar Store will have packages galore), but it’s low effort for high impact. Tip: pick an unexpected lip colour to pair with your eye-covered face.

@formidableartistry’s ventriloquist DIY tutorial proves the power of the brow, and how a few perfectly placed lines can transform the face.
