How cute are Vivian Boyack and Alice “Nonie” Dubes? The 91- and 90-year-old women have been together for 72 years and they finally — finally!! — tied the knot over the weekend.
The long-awaited ceremony took place at the First Christian Church in Davenport, Iowa, with the couple telling The Quad-City Times that “it is never too late for people to write new chapters in their lives.” Aw.
Reverend Linda Hunsaker, who officiated the wedding, said, “This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago.” She’s obviously referring to the Supreme Court striking down DOMA last year and legalizing same-sex marriages — therefore allowing couples who are absolutely devoted to one another and in it for the looooooooong haul, like Boyack and Dubes, to make their unions official.
Honestly, how wonderful and inspiring are these women? Their love story is clearly one that stands the test of time. Jerry Deast, 73, who has known the couple since he started working on their yard as an 18-year-old (!!!), witnessed the two women exchange their vows. “They are special,” Yeast told The Times, adding, “This is a very special day for all of us.” Amazing.
