The tragedy in Paris is obviously something that would be difficult to explain to a child, but one dad in the city seems to have nailed it.

Just outside the Bataclan Theatre, where 89 concert goers were killed last Friday, a reporter asks a child sitting with his dad “Do you understand why those people did that?”

It’s a tough question, even for an adult, but the young boy gives it his best shot. “Because they’re really, really mean. Bad guys are not very nice.” He then worries out loud that his family may have to move because of the danger, which is when dad chimes in.

“Oh no don’t worry…we don’t need to move. France is our home.”

“But there’s bad guys Daddy…they have guns, they can shoot us because they’re really, really mean Daddy,” the boy replies.

Now here comes the money quote.

“It’s OK. They might have guns, but we have flowers,” the dad responds. He goes on to explain that the flowers represent all the people who are against guns, and also act as a perpetual reminder of the victims Paris lost that day. The video has already been shared millions of times on Facebook.

In fact, in the comments posted under the original clip, commenter “Angel Le” writes “Hello I’m the daddy with the small boy, thank you all for the great comments you post for us. It’s when I see all this support that I said one thing: I’m proud to be french and proud of my compatriots !!! My family and I embrace you”.
