If Canadians love anything more than maple syrup and free healthcare, it’s when our world-renowned talents rep our country. We have a whole list of Canadians who’ve done us proud and self-described “B.C. Boy” and legendary music producer David Foster is certainly at the top. His David Foster Foundation hosted “A Simply Spectacular Experience” on Vancouver Island this week and Foster took the opportunity to chat with etalk‘s Ben Mulroney all about the work the foundation is doing and his new wife Katharine McPhee.
Foster started his foundation in 1986 after he met a young girl from Victoria living in L.A. in desperate need of a liver transplant. Since then, the organization has worked to provide financial support for children in need of life-saving transplants and their families. While that’s what they do on paper, Foster says it’s so much more than that.
“My mission statement is a little different from what you see on the website,” he explained. “I like to say, ‘If you’re not a millionaire, on your worst day, when you find out your child needs an organ transplant, we’re going to be the one bright light… we’re going to help you through it financially.'”
To date, The David Foster Foundation has assisted over 1,200 families across Canada.
While the Foundation has been working its magic for decades, Foster, 69, had a newer, more personal project to talk about—his marriage to singer and actress Katharine McPhee. The two were married earlier this summer in London. Honestly we’ll never get tired of listening to celebs gush about their partners.
“Kat is an amazing, amazing woman,” Foster gushed. “I love romance and I love her, like, beyond! I know it’s unconventional and they’ll be the naysayers—there’s the haters—and we just stay strong through it.”

“You know, whatever your relationship is—if you’re the same age or there’s a big age difference—there’s always problems in a relationship; there’s always something you can find to break you up. We’re not going to let this break us up,” he said.
And since it’s 2019 and every husband needs be a supportive and loving partner as well as a fire Instagram photographer, David looks to be all set. Katharine, 35, seems to be more than happy with her new hubby’s pap skills since he features heavily on her Insta (though mostly behind the camera).
David’s top tip? “Be a great photographer.” K, thanks.
He also delved into the sweet 14-year love story that eventually led to all those fantastic IG husband shots. Siri, show us “Fate.”
“There was always something there from the moment I met her 14 years ago,” David shared. “But she got married; I got married and we never violated anything, we just sort of stayed in touch. I always was fascinated by her—I always loved the way she sang; I always loved the way she treated people; I always loved the way she looked; I always loved the way she acted. She’s a great actress; she’s a great singer; she’s a great person.”
