Twitter has a knack for providing beautiful gifts to the universe at the exact moment we’ve decided (again) that social media is a dredge on society and should be deleted. Damn you, Twitterverse; we just can’t quit you.

One eagle-eyed Twitter user shared the amazing realization that comedian Patton Oswalt and actor David Harbour seemingly spent their high school years looking an awful lot like two Stranger Things characters.

Trevor White, who uses the handle @JustARealDummy, shared two throwback pics of Oswalt and Harbour and captioned them with a line that is continuing to blow minds: “@DavidKHarbour and @pattonoswalt’s friendship makes so much sense when you realize they are grown up Steve & Dustin.” Boom. Yup. We will never be able to not see the resemblance.

Oswalt quickly caught wind of the comparison and realized that, once again, the Internet was right. Sharing the pic, the stand-up comedian reached out to Adult Steve, aka Jim Hopper, about the perfect tweet.

Oswalt and Harbour really are the spitting image(s) of Stranger Things’ characters Steve and Dustin, played by actor Joe Keery, who himself was already at the centre of a look-alike debate, and Gaten Matarazzo.

The characters formed an unlikely bond on the retro series, with Steve and Dustin becoming a fan favourite starting in Season 1, a friendship that Stranger Things’ creators The Duffer Brothers admit took them by surprise. In the three seasons of the award-winning Netflix series, Steve and Dustin have continued to have on another’s back, giving fans a beautiful bromance and an epic handshake.

While Harbour, Keery and Matarazzo have yet to comment on the recent comparisons, a deep dive into Harbour’s Instagram page reveals that the actor had already noticed the similarities between his high school self and Keery.

And on the off chance that Keery and Matarazzo are wondering what they’ll look like in 20 years, here’s a safe, Russian-interference-free alternative to the FaceApp.
