"If I don't get cast as Joe Exotic in the eventual biopic, Hollywood is broken," Shepard tweeted out on March 25, the day after the McKinnon project was announced (in all fairness he may have missed the news). While other people have suggested that actors like David Spade, Danny McBride or Walton Goggins could successfully replicate the character, Edward Norton has other ideas. Like Shepard, he wants to nominate himself.[video_embed id='1928353']RELATED: Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are waiving rent during coronavirus[/video_embed]“Um, step aside, pal,” Norton tweeted back at the former Parenthood star on March 26. “You’re way too young and buff and you know it. You could probably pull off Maldonado still, actually. Wouldn’t that be fun?”If I don't get cast as Joe Exotic in the eventual biopic, Hollywood is broken.

“I'll go "Machinest" for this,” Shepard shot back with a few grin-faced emojis for good measure. Turns out Norton might not be the only actor pulling for the lead against the Bless This Mess star, though. Dane Cook also chimed in with, “I already got asked but I’m sure there is a villain role supporting me we could slot you in. #howdareyou.”Right now, with most of Hollywood shut down, it could be a while before anything actually starts filming. And to put things in perspective, McKinnon bought the rights to this story last year, before the documentary premiered. However, who’s to say that casting decisions can’t be made before then? After all, people everywhere are embracing apps like Zoom and Houseparty to connect, so what makes auditions any different?I'll go "Machinest" for this.
