Demi Lovato celebrated her 28th birthday on August 20, and she marked the day by reminding the world it's a milestone Breonna Taylor will never see. The 26-year-old EMT was shot and killed by police in her own home in March and the three officers involved in Taylor's death—Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison and Myles Cosgrove—have not been charged. Lovato continues to be one of the many celebs using their platforms to call for justice for Taylor and her family.“Today is my 28th birthday... a birthday that Breonna Taylor will never have the opportunity to experience," wrote Lovato in an Instagram post on Thursday before announcing a new Propeller campaign in Taylor’s honour. The campaign will include pre-written letters to the Louisville mayor and chief of police, as well as information on petition links and places people can donate to support the fight for justice. “No matter how big or small you think your impact may be, if we all stand together we can help bring justice for Breonna Taylor,” wrote Lovato.
Part of the campaign is an incentive program that allows participants to acquire points for contributing to causes and completing actions. Points can be used toward raffle entries which, in Lovato's campaign, include items from her personal closet or a signed photo. The singer’s Propeller account also includes actions like signing a petition for Elijah McClain; registering to vote; watching a video on systemic racism; donating to funds like the Families Belong Together campaign and the Black Voters Matter fund and more.Lovato previously posted about Taylor on what would have been her 27th birthday. Along with many other celebrities, including Solange and Megan Thee Stallion, Lovato honoured Taylor on June 5 by supporting a campaign started by writer Cate Young that encouraged people to send birthday cards to the Kentucky attorney general demanding that the three officers involved in Taylor’s death be charged.[video_embed id='2017024']RELATED: Jessie Reyez performs national anthem on top of the CN Tower [/video_embed]Lovato has been using her platform since June to support the recent globalization of the Black Lives Matter movement. Taylor’s name also appears on every player’s jersey this season. The players in the WNBA have also teamed up with Phenomenal and artist Arlyn Garcia to create a t-shirt honouring Taylor. The shirt was worn by several high profile celebrities, including Regina King, Viola Davis, Tracee Ellis Ross, Retta, Amy Schumer, Sarah Paulson, Jessica Alba, Niecy Nash, Retta, Danielle Brooks, Diane Guerror and more on August 13 to mark 150 days since Taylor’s death with no legal action. In the NBA, LeBron James and the Lakers wore redesigned MAGA hats reading "MAKE AMERICA ARREST THE COPS WHO KILLED BREONNA TAYLOR" and Jessie Reyez sang the Canadian and U.S. national anthems ahead of the August 17 Raptors game on top of the CN Tower wearing a Breonna Taylor face mask.In July, Oprah Winfrey made history by announcing that for the first time in the magazine’s 20 years of publication, she would not appear on the cover of O Magazine.
