Lamar Odom cheated death and lived to tell the tale. Actually, he’s telling all the tales. The NBA superstar released his memoir Darkness To Light on May 28 and is opening up about his drug and sex addictions, his traumatic childhood, his time in the NBA, and his famous relationships with actor Taraji P. Henson and ex-wife Khloe Kardashian. It turns out Keeping Up With The Kardashians didn’t show the extent of Odom’s demons, including the time he threatened to kill Khloe.
In excerpts shared by Us Weekly, Odom remembers the “most regrettable moment,” recalling the time he forcefully grabbed Kardashian while he was high and screamed at her, saying, “You trying to embarrass me in front of my friends? I’ll f–king kill you! You don’t know what I’m capable of!”
The Olympic athlete writes in the book that he cheated on Kardashian, whom he wed after a month of dating in 2009, throughout their marriage. “I had broken my vows with Khloé so many times it’s just impossible for me to remember them all,” he wrote. “I don’t know why Khloé stayed with me.”
Kardashian was aware of some of the infidelities, with Odom recounting the time that Kardashian found him in a hotel room having sex with other women. “[She] opened the door and pounced on the first girl she saw,” wrote Odom.
Khloe and Lamar’s divorce was finalized in December 2016, though the couple had been separated since 2013.
Kardashian wasn’t the only partner Odom cheated on. His relationship with Henson was also marred by affairs. “God gave me a layup and I blew it,” he wrote. “I felt guilty, but I was craving immediate sex.”
Odom doesn’t hold back in the new book, according to Us, which details his sexual escapades, including orgies in the early 2000s. The NBA star, who guesses he’s slept with more than 2,000 women, writes that he doesn’t remember most of the women’s names, admitting the majority were one-night stands, and says that he suffers from a sex addiction. “I have been obsessed with sex as long as I can remember,” he wrote. “I used sex to fill the void.”
Many of Odom’s sexual encounters didn’t include protection, resulting in unwanted pregnancies. “I’ve paid for plenty of abortions over the years. I’m not proud of it,” he wrote. “It’s the law and legal, but I don’t feel proud about it at all.”
Odom made headlines in 2015 when he overdosed at a Nevada brothel. Estranged wife Khloe and her family stood by his side throughout his recovery, but this wasn’t Odom’s first close call. The basketball player revealed that he overdosed in the mid-2000s as well. “Time slowed down. I couldn’t swallow. … I couldn’t breathe,” writes Odom, who was diagnosed with dehydration. “I knew the truth.”
According to Us Weekly, the Kardashian family is aware of the book and are not concerned about its contents. That’s probably because they come out looking like saints. Prayer circle for Khloe.
