Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson spent 2017 teasing us that he would make a political run in 2020 (with Tom Hanks, no less!) and now he seems tobe dipping his toes into political water again. Although this time, it’s less of a tease that he might run for president and more of an endorsement of a currently-running candidate.

During the season five premiere of Ballers (Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET on Crave), The Rock’s character Spencer Strasmore, is caught reading This Fight is Our Fight: The Battle to Save America’s Middle Class—a political science book by none other than Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren. The timing of the book’s strategic placement (right in the middle of the candidate race) coupled with Dwayne’s previous chatter about politics has fans speculating about what this small, but punchy clue could mean.

You see, everyone loves The Rock—he’s superhuman, yet humble; universally beloved and eats junk food in the dark—but Elizabeth Warren loooves The Rock. The current U.S. senator is a longtime superfan and very vocal about her dedication to the man and the show Ballers. So much so that when an interviewer questioned her devotion to the show, she emphatically (and very relatably) declared, “It is The Rock!” Just ahead of the premiere, Warren took to Twitter once again to express her excitement and also congratulate The Rock on his recent marriage to long-time partner Lauren Hashian. He wrote back thanking her for her “hard work on behalf of our country” and told her to enjoy the episode. We’re sure she did.

Are the thank-you tweet and book placement simply shout-outs to a famous fan or could they point towards a candidate endorsement? Ballers hasn’t exactly been subtle about its political views, but The Rock coming out in support of one of the many Democratic candidates would be a big deal.

One thing’s for sure—our inner sleuth is out to play as we try to decode what this hint could translate to. Only time will tell.
