Baby is coming out of the corner, and she’s doing so in a pretty big way.

Anyone who has been following TV lately knows that live shows have been all the rage as of late (The Wiz Live! just captured more than 11 million viewers in the U.S. on NBC, and Grease: Live is already gearing up for a huge January unveilling on Fox). Well, now ABC is getting ready to jump into the musical remake arena and it’s doing so with the classic 1987 film Dirty Dancing.

Right now there are few details to actually know about the production, other than the fact that they’ve already found their Baby. Taking over from Jennifer Grey is none other than Little Miss Sunshine herself, Abigail Breslin. Oh, and rather than take a gamble and do the whole thing live like the aforementioned shows, this three-hour event will be pre-taped. Considering all of the tricky dance choreography, we’d say that’s a pretty good idea.

So who will join Breslin, who just wrapped a stint on Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens? All we know is that casting for someone to take on the role made famous by the late Patrick Swayze is underway. Personally, we’d be pretty down with someone like Zac Efron or Chace Crawford — especially now that his new show, Blood & Oil, has been cancelled after its first half-season. Oh, and naturally we want Grey to return, this time as Baby’s mother.

Of course we were expecting this news for quite some time — Dirty Dancing has been floating around as a potential TV adaptation for a while now, but we’re happy it’s finally found a home. After all, who doesn’t want to have the “time of their lives” all over again?

We’ll hold final judgement until we see the actual product, though. Although the original film’s writers, Allison Shearmur and Eleanor Bergstein, are on board as executive producers, the script itself is being penned by Jessica Sharzer — one of the scribes behind American Horror Story and Scream Queens. And although there’s a horrific abortion scene in the film, we’d like our Dirty Dancing with those signature feel-good scenes, thank you very much Lover Boy.
