We’re all used to the archetypal Disney Princess – thin, pretty, made up… and usually, white (we’ll give Disney a pass of late, though). Prepare to have them completely reimagined with the help of just a makeup palette – American makeup artist Hamel Patel, who boasts over 34k followers on Instagram, used her platform to share her own vision of what the classic Disney Princesses could look like, and her skills to make the point.
Herself of Indian origin, she decided to represent eight Princesses with an Indian twist – and they look pretty damn awesome, if we do say so. She said she was inspired to create the series of portraits having grown up wishing there was a Princess she could relate to. We’re glad that more recently, with the likes of Tiana in The Princess and the Frog, and Moana, the look of a Disney Princess is slightly more inclusive than it used to be.
Posing as the original eight ’90s Princesses – Mulan, Pocahontas, Cinderella, Jasmine from Aladdin, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, Ariel from The Little Mermaid, and Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Patel added beautiful accessories galore for an Indian flair. And she didn’t forget the adorning touches – Belle has a rose, and Ariel even has a fork in her ear… it’s taking us right back to our more youthful days running around pretending to the object of Prince Eric’s affection.
Take a look for yourself, and get some inspiration for your next look…
