Disney released the teaser trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales online over the weekend. The first shiver was because we were so excited; the second shiver was because the clip is actually super spooky and it was dark out when we watched it.
There’s no Johnny Depp in the 80 seconds we saw, but the bad guy, a worse for wear zombie pirate, Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, is looking for him. (After the recent headlines that 53-year-old Depp has been making, we’re wondering if Disney purposefully kept him behind the curtain.) But we know Sparrow and he’s probably just drinking rum on an island somewhere…
It’s not just Sparrow we’re hoping they bring back, but our other favourite characters, too. The handsome young fellah we see in the clip is Henry (Brenton Thwaites), the son of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). So, he’s got a decided young Orlando Bloom vibe to him, but we’re still looking forward to seeing his parents.
There’s sure to be plenty of action and swordplay when the movie opens, but we’re really looking forward to the moments of pure fun that make Pirates of the Caribbean so perfect. Remember Pintel and Ragetti, the hapless, bumbling pirates? Something tells us these creepy, waterlogged zombie pirates won’t be quite as playful, but we’ve been wrong before.
