Most of us drink coffee every single morning. Most of us also poop every single morning. Until now, we weren’t sure the two were connected, but now there seems to be concrete poop proof that yes, coffee does indeed get ye olde bowels moving, at least for some of us.

A recent study showed that the ground-bean beverage triggers a gastrocolonic response (in English: it increases activity in the colon) in approximately 30 – 40 per cent of coffee drinkers. Researchers investigated caffeine as the possible poop culprit, but they found even people who drank decaf still had the urge to go right after they downed some java.

So three cheers for regularity! This might even give the “Beans, Beans, the Musical Fruit” song a whole new meaning. Just replace “eat” with “drink” and “toot” with “poop.” There. A song for the ages.

Watch the video, above, for more information on what our morning friend does to our insides.
