We’re always hoping for something new and fresh and original from our television shows. Superhero series? We’ve seen a few. Procedurals? We can’t even keep track. Reality shows? Too many to mention. Shonda Rhimes shows? Well, we can never have too many Shonda shows. But you know what the small screen so desperately needs? A musical. So leave it to Donnie Wahlberg and Nick Lachey to answer the call.
The former boy-banders (Wahlberg of New Kids on the Block and Lachey of 98 Degrees, obv.) have joined forces to produce the sitcom of our dreams.
Tentatively titled Encore, it’s pretty much art coming to life as members of a boyband group reunite 20 years after the height of their success, reports Variety. Donnie and Nick will produce the series for CBS alongside Entourage creator Doug Ellin, who will also write the pilot, so you know it’s going to be good.
According to Variety, the idea came from Wahlberg and Lachey, who became friendly after touring together in 2013. They compared notes about how different their lives were now from the craziness that surrounded them back in the day, and the concept was born.
It’s the kind of show the teenager in all of us didn’t know we needed until now. Plus, think of the guest stars! Sigh. This is our everything.
