Gone through the closet lately and realized that you’ve got some old shoes that not even Santa’s elves could fix? Don’t be so sure about that, because we’ve come across this amazing trick that transforms ratty old shoes into new, holiday pieces of art.

If you’re looking to kick up those kicks – or heels – for the holidays and don’t want to spend a ton of dough, all you really need is some tape, glue and sparkles galore.

In the above video, BuzzFeed ingeniously breaks down one of the simplest yet coolest shoe hacks we’ve seen yet, and it’s all told vaudeville style to really get you into the spirit. Basically they take a regular old pair of sneakers, tape them up so as to create a design, and sparkle them up with some white glitter. Then, once that’s all nice and dry, the tape comes off so that they can apply some black glitter for a black-and-white effect that would work at your next holiday gala or get-together.

The only thing we recommend? You might not want to actually wear the finished product in the snow.

One of the great things about this DIY hack though is that it will work well with any old pair of shoes you may have thrown out. Sneakers are just the beginning – if you’ve got a scuffed up pair of heels or boots that have seen finer days, why not give glitter a whirl on them, too?

Hey, it’s a lot cheaper (and easier) than finding another pair of shoes to go with that holiday outfit you’ve spent months sourcing. And, when someone asks you where you got them, they’ll be thoroughly impressed by your DIY answer.

Now that’s what we call a Christmas miracle.
