Last week a story surfaced that shameless attention junky Miley Cyrus pulled the most cringe-worthy celebrity faux pas possible during her stay at a swanky New York hotel. Yes, you know the one.
Cyrus and her touring crew were causing a weed smoking ruckus (we mean “alleged” weed smoking ruckus, of course) in the lobby of a usually peaceful big money hotel in Greenwich. The staff, who received a number of noise complaints, asked Miley and her crew to please simmer down. Miley was not impressed and threw one hell of a hissy fit. And then, there it was: Miley telling the hotel staff that she’s Miley Cyrus and they’re lucky to have her in their presence. Yep, the old “don’t you know who I am” celeb routine.
Now of course Cyrus isn’t the first person to pull that tasteless move. The whole “celeb card” embarrassment has been practised for years by a variety of shameless celebrity perps.
Here’s a look back at some of the most shameful moments of celebs acting out the oh, so tacky “don’t you know who I am” routine, which also serves as a reminder about why we really shouldn’t care.
13 celebs who pulled the “Don’t you know who I am?!” card
Shia LaBeoufWe’ve certainly witnessed Shia LaBeouf doing some interesting things. This summer while attending a Broadway show, Shia caused a verbal disruption. When security came to throw him out, LaBeouf screamed, "F*** you. This is f***ing bullshit. Do you know my life? Do you know who the f*** I am?"Getty Images
Sam WorthingtonWhat’s up with celebrities thinking that because people know who they are, they can get away with breaking the law? Earlier this year, Sam Worthington got arrested for beating up a paparazzo. While cops were cuffing Worthington, he smugly asked them, “Have you seen the movie, Avatar?" Apparently the cops weren't fans.Getty Images
RihannaA couple summers back, Rihanna was in a London club when she decided to get up on a table to dance. In the process, she kicked over bottles of champagne and glasses. Security decided to throw her out. While being tossed, Rihanna shrieked "Don't you know who I am?"Getty Images
Reese WitherspoonLast year when Reese Witherspoon got arrested for a DUI, the actress felt she was above the law. In a nasty verbal exchange with the police, Witherspoon demanded, "Do you know my name sir…you're about to find out who I am!" He knew who she was. She was subsequently taken to jail.Getty Images
Miley CyrusWho would have guessed that Miley Cyrus’ recent “don’t you know who I am” moment in New York wasn’t her first? Cyrus had another entitled episode a few years back at a New York burger chain when her server asked her for her name and Cyrus responded “Are you serious? You don’t recognize me? I’m Miley Cyrus.”Getty Images
Guy FieriCeleb chef and hair-dye connoisseur Guy Fieri seems like a nice guy, but it doesn’t mean he’s not entitled. At a Super Bowl party in New Orleans a few years back, he wasn’t allowed into the VIP area. Fieri became irate and dropped the infamous “don’t you know who I am” line on them. Didn’t work. Aw.Getty Images
Dina LohanWhat’s more shocking, the fact that former mother of the year candidate Dina Lohan considers herself a celeb or that in 2009 she pulled the card when trying to get into a nightclub with her daughters Lindsay and [15 year old] Ali. After getting rejected, Lohan yelled, yes, you guessed it, “Do you know who I am?”Getty Images
Diana RossDiana Ross doesn’t shy away from thinking she's entitled. While attending a restaurant in Beverly Hills, Ross ignored the policy of not seating guests until all of their fellow patrons are present. Ross sat down anyways, and when the staff told her she wouldn’t be served, she responded "Don't you know who I am?"Getty Images
David HasselhoffShould David Hasselhoff’s (former?) celebrity status grant him the same access as the tennis players at Wimbledon? He sure thought so back in 2006 when he walked into the players’ private bar. When security came to throw him out, he yelled at them "All I want is a drink, do you know who I am?" Hasselhoff was tossed.Getty Images
Amanda BynesDuring Amanda Bynes’ downward spiral into bizarre behavior that saw her getting arrested for throwing a bong outside her apartment window, she also thought she was above the law because: celebrity. When the cops were hauling Bynes of to jail, she screamed that familiar refrain, “Don’t you know who I am?”Getty Images
Allen IversonOne of the biggest names in NBA history is also an entitled celebrity so-and-so. Former NBA superstar Allen Iverson was pulled over by police in his Lambo back in 2011. Angry at the police officer for stopping him, he told the cop to, “Take the vehicle. I have ten more. Do you know who I am?" He was ticketed heavily.Getty Images
Alec BaldwinAlec Baldwin is a celeb with one heck of a fiery temper. He apparently gets extra fired up when he’s not recognized. Earlier this year police pulled Baldwin over in New York for riding his bike against traffic in Union Square. Baldwin’s response: "F*** this. This is horse s***. Don't you know who I am?"Getty Images
Lindsay LohanLindsay Lohan seems to think she deserves special treatment. After forgetting her phone in an NYC deli in 2009, LiLo became nasty when the deli workers asked her for ID before returning it to her. Lohan was so mad that they didn’t know her, she called the NYPD to come to the deli. They certainly know who she is now.Getty Images
