We hate to be the bearers of bad news, especially during the holiday season, but here goes: Doria Ragland will not be celebrating Christmas with daughter Duchess Meghan, son-in-law Prince Harry and the rest of the BRF at Sandringham House. As much as we wanted the rumours of The Queen inviting Doria to Norfolk to be true, People magazine reports that Doria will not be around for the royal festivities.

Perhaps the Queen simply doesn’t want to break tradition again. If you recall, this year marks Meghan’s second Christmas with the royals; she joined Harry’s family in 2017, a month after the couple became engaged. That was considered a big deal at the time, because she hadn’t officially married into the family. So welcoming Doria, when non-royals are almost never invited, would’ve, once again, freaked the freaks of those who like their ducks lined up in a row.

While Meghan was an exception, along with the Countess of Wessex‘s widowed father (who has reportedly also spent the holidays in Sandringham), we can’t recall any other non-royals getting invitations to Norfolk.

Take Duchess Kate‘s family, for instance. The Middletons have never received an invite from Her Maj, so Will and Kate make sure they split their time with both families and alternate years, to ensure no one feels slighted. It’s worked in years past, though this year will be a little different as Will and Kate will skip the Middletons at Bucklebury for the second Christmas in a row and spend it at Sandringham with the rest of the Royal Fam.

But we can’t help but feel for Doria. Unlike Carole and Michael, who have their other children (and new grandson) with whom to enjoy Christmas, Ragland, as far as we can tell, has no other close family. Hopefully she has some other loved ones to share the holidays with, or perhaps she likes to be alone. As another year winds down, a little time to one’s self never hurt anyone.

Based on what we’ve seen from Ragland thus far, she’s probably cool with it. Well, maybe a little disappointed, but matter-of-fact about the whole situation. Meghan probably has more feelings about it all: sad, a little pissed, a lot hormonal, we’re guessing. But Doria seems like such composed lady and nurturing mom that she’s likely told Megs to buck up (in the nicest way possible, of course). And, hey, there’s always FaceTime! Heck, there’s always New Year’s. Meghan and Doria will be together in no time. We’re counting on it.
