For those of us keeping track of glamourous celeb summer weddings, the union of Games of Thrones’s Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas was surely one of the major highlights. And while their May Las Vegas ceremony was a more impromptu affair shared on social media (thanks, Diplo), their official June nuptials in France had a distinct air of exclusivity and secrecy. That is, until Dr. Phil took to commenting on Instagram that he was looking forward to the big day with a "week to go!", seemingly revealing the date to the whole wide world. But turns out, he might not have totally spoiled the occasion, guys. Last night he went to Jimmy Kimmel Live to set the record straight. And he might be pleading on a technicality, but he’s so well-meaning we might have to overlook it.
"You’re getting ready to say I gave it away—that’s bull****," the TV personality interjected before Kimmel could make the full allegation. "It wasn’t a week… but it was pretty close."Kimmel had evidence, but Phil stood by his defence, adding that the ceremony took place a long way away from Paris, where the original Instagram photo was taken… which apparently changes everything? Dr. Phil insisted all is well between himself and the newlyweds though, remarking that it probably "hadn’t occurred to them [to uninvite him over the mishap] until now!"It's all in good fun though. In reality, Dr. Phil's connections with the bride and groom seem in good stead, with both Sophie and the JoBros featuring on his podcast this year. The small misstep was likely born out of Dr. Phil’s aversion to surprises. In fact, he shared that his latest birthday outing—a trip to see the reunited Jonas Brothers perform at Madison Square Garden—was planned way in advance with his full knowledge. After all, it was a family affair with none other than Dr. Phil's son Jordan McGraw featuring as the opening act at the iconic venue.Does that make Dr. Phil their equivalent of everyone’s annoying but well-meaning uncle?! We sure hope so because that's pretty darn adorable.
