Could our favourite flower child of the 90s be dipping her toes into the daytime talk show game? If Drew Barrymore has it her way, that answer will be a resounding YES.
According to reports from Variety, Barrymore is keeping busy in New York this week shooting a pilot for an hour-long daytime talk show for CBS Television Distribution, which she’d also executive produce. This isn’t the first time she’s sought out a daytime spot – Drew stans will remember back in 2016, the star was in talks with Warner Bros. TV about a daytime show, which eventually fizzled out.
Though the timing may have been wrong then, 2019 feels like a great year for Drew to take another stab at it. Coming off of three seasons of the Netflix comedy Santa Clarita Diet and reality competition show The World’s Best, Barrymore seems ready to take on a new role and bring something fresh to the daytime talk scene – which is definitely having its moment right now, with new shows from Tamron Hall and Kelly Clarkson launching this fall.
Despite being in its early stages, we can’t help but imagine what a Drew Barrymore-produced and hosted daytime talk show would look like.
Imagine a “Wayback Playback” segment where she invites past co-stars on to remake famous scenes? A musical segment with Adam Sandler? And did someone say “Charlie’s Angels reunions as a weekly thing?”
Maybe a “Wine and Chew with Drew” segment where she pairs her various Barrymore Wines selections with delicious foods? And hello, can you picture the Drew-inspired set decor? Being a guest on her show would feel like sitting on the comfiest couch in the most magical rooftop garden, which TBH sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon.
While we wait for the official confirmation on the new show, we’ll be over here re-watching some Drew Barrymore classics.
