Toddlers may know how to rock tiaras but they don’t have anything on royalty. Duchess Kate and Prince William attended a private reception at Buckingham Palace Tuesday night and they were decked out. While no photographers were allowed inside the party for diplomats and ambassadors, the Cambridges were snapped heading to the function and, boy, did they get an eyeful.
Adorning Kate’s gorgeous updo was the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, which was a favorite of her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales, reports People.
The tiara, which features knotted diamonds and dangling pearls intertwined, was commissioned by Queen Mary in 1913. The headpiece was given to Queen Elizabeth after Mary’s death and she regifted it to Diana as a wedding present in 1981. She returned it to Prince Charles‘ mum when they divorced in 1996.
Man, Di sure knew how to wear a tiara, non? With a puffed sleeve…
Only she could wear a tiara with this ’80s deliciousness.
AND a popped collar? Come on!
Tuesday night marked the first time we’ve seen Kate wearing this particular tiara (she’s previously worn the Lotus Flower one) but this should be the last fancy event for a while so it’s probably back in the vault.
Up next for Kate, to wrap up 2015, is an appearance at Action on Addiction on Thursday as well as a Christmas party at the Anna Freud Centre on Dec. 15. She and Will also attended the annual Charity Day in the City of London, a first for Kate. Sadly, no tiara. But there was ping-pong!
