UPDATE:

Kate Middleton just left the private Lindo Wing, of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, with Baby number 3 in her arms. Both parents look delighted, and not at all tired. We don’t know how she does it.

It’s been an endless winter but it looks like things are finally turning around, and along with the warmer weather we’ve been waiting for, here’s something that’ll brighten up these spring days even more: Duchess Kate has finally given birth to the most anticipated baby of the year. She and Prince William welcomed a boy. A big boy. Yay! His name has yet to be announced but the wagers just got interesting, particularly for those who were betting on Thomas, Arthur or Henry.

The official announcement on the baby’s website reads: “The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.”

The Palace added that all those who needed to know before the announcement were made aware, and all are “delighted.”

But they probably were informed a few hours ago, after Kate and Will headed to St Mary’s when the mom of now-three went into labour.

Finally! Though the long wait is finally over, this is only the beginning as far as royal baby fever goes. While some might say this is old hat and their third child isn’t as big a deal as his siblings before him, please. If he’s anything like George and Charlotte, we know we’re in for some fun times.

For now, though, we’ll be waiting with the rest of the world for the new parents to emerge from the Lindo Wing holding their bundle of joy, to get a first glimpse of the kid’s smushy face and see if Will can pop in the infant car seat with his eyes closed. But it’s the all-important name we’re really anxious for.

It’s an exciting time, for the new parents, the rest of the royals and all us monarchy-lovers. Congrats to Kate and Will! We wish them a lifetime of happiness and not too many sleepless nights. Now, onto the next royal event to freak out about: Harry and Meghan‘s wedding. Excuse us while we get a nap in because by this time in a month, we’ll have yet another royal thing to celebrate.

Can’t wait for more pictures of the new prince? These shots of the first two adorable royals babies should help tide you over until they’re finally released.
