Dwayne Johnson earned a whopping $89.4 million between June 1, 2018 and June 1, 2019, making him the highest paid actor in the world over the past year. Remember when Johnson announced he was making the move from the WWE to Hollywood and everyone laughed? Yeah, neither do we.

All the positivity, training and cheat meals have paid off big time, with Johnson making major bucks from his movie and TV roles and sponsorship deals. Johnson reportedly pulls in $700,000 per episode of Ballers, which premieres its fifth season on Crave on Sunday, August 25 at 9 p.m. ET.

The actor also gets 15 per cent of the earnings from his biggest movies, including Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which made $926.1 million, a deal he replicated for the upcoming Jumanji: The Next Level. Of course, that’s in addition to his upfront pay of $23.5 million for the film. That’s so many sushi trains. Johnson also receives royalties from the sale of his clothing, shoes and headphones with Under Armor.

Johnson has the most financially lucrative deal in Hollywood, but according to Forbes, he’s not the only actor who has managed to carve out a nice piece of box office earnings. In second place on the list of highest earners is Chris Hemsworth, who made a cool $76.4 million. Robert Downey Jr. is right behind Thor with $66 million. Both men negotiated a percentage of earnings from their Avengers films in addition to their upfront pay cheques for their roles in the Marvel franchise. Downey Jr. earned $20 million for his latest romp as Iron Man, plus eight per cent of the $2.796 billion gross global earnings for Avengers: Endgame, which took his pay up to $55 million.

Fellow Avenger stars Chris Evans ($43.5 million) and Paul Rudd ($41 million) also made the list, confirming that America’s ass and the age-defying actor are being well taken care of by studios.

Jackie Chan, who earns money through film roles, endorsement deals, and by owning his own line of movie theatres, brought in $58 million last year. Adam Sandler’s Netflix films and comedy special added up, with the comedian earning $57 million, tying for sixth place with Bradley Cooper. Thanks to Cooper’s gamble on A Star Is Born, which saw the leading actor, writer and director forgo his upfront payday in order to secure funding and a sizeable offer for Lady Gaga, he still earned $40 million on the film. Cooper banked on earning his money by taking 10 per cent of the film’s gross earnings, which amounted to $435 million. Not bad for a film with an initial budget of $36 million. Will Smith came in at the number ten spot on the list, but don’t cry for the Fresh Prince. Coming in last on this list still means earning $35 million.

Akshay Kumar is the only actor outside of Hollywood to make the list, with the Bollywood star bringing in $65 million last year. While Kumar takes home between $5 and $10 million per role, considerably less than his Hollywood counterparts, he has endorsement deals with more than 20 brands.
