Create a cute costume, save some cash and take care of some of your kids’ basic clothing needs while you’re at it. You don’t need to break the bank, or your brain, putting together a Halloween costume that’ll never be worn again.
Here are eight costume ideas that will go on to become favourite everyday staples in your kiddos’ wardrobes.
Instead of going all in for the full-body superhero costumes that come in those plastic party-store packages, go for a superhero logo t-shirt (like this reversible sequin Superman/Batman one) and pair it with black or bright blue leggings. Add a cape for Halloween (to be used for dress up later) and the rest of the outfit can be worn for as long as the superhero stage lasts (or until they grow out of it).
Super easy and adorable, all a grapes costume requires is purple leggings, a bright purple shirt and purple balloons (with small safety pins to attach ‘em by the knot). You could also do green grapes, if that’s your kiddo’s preference!
To make this cute costume, pair rainbow leggings with a delightfully retro rainbow vest and a striped rainbow sweater. Add a knitted rainbow hat, and your kid is all set to be the most colourful (and coziest) kid on the block.
We love this waterproof dino coat for everyday wear, but it has enough attitude to make for a fun, standout Halloween costume.
The major bonus of this one is that it’s outerwear, so they won’t freeze their cute little butts off on a cool fall night just for the sake of their costume.
Pair the coat colour of your choice with matching leggings for a bright and bold dino look. Add matching face paint to make your dino extra colourful.
The cheaper option (if you’ve got the skills) is sewing some triangles of felt on to an existing hoodie in your kid’s closet.
Rosie the Riveter
The perfect costume for your super-strong daughter, all you need for a Rosie Riveter costume is a chambray/denim shirt and a red bandana. You can also use this costume as an excuse for craft time with your little one to make the bright yellow and blue ‘We Can do It!” sign as a background for photos. When Halloween is over, a denim shirt will become a wardrobe staple, and they’ll look super cute rocking their red banana around town.
Pair a super soft organic cotton dress (that will be worn and loved for as long as it fits!) with striped leggings, a witch hat, black booties and striped green socks. Don’t forget your witch’s cozy cloak!
A Christmas Elf
Take care of your little one’s Halloween costume, Christmas PJs and raincoat needs in one shot. Just pair a red pea coat with these striped organic cotton pajamas. Add a sweet knitted elf hat (that will also make for a great Christmas photo op) to elevate the costume. If your little elf is a baby, these cute shoes will make the costume extra sweet.
This faux fur white coat is magically cozy for the unicorn in your life. We love the idea of pairing this with a unicorn shirt, unicorn skirt and unicorn horn. Don’t forget to add lots of face glitter to make this costume extra magical.
