Two names you probably didn’t think you’d hear in the same sentence ever: Duchess Meghan and Ed O’Neill. But the two actually go way back. Like, 30 years back. As we all know, Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, was a camera operator on Married With Children, O’Neill was the star of Married With Children, and well, there you have it.

Ed was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and played a game called “Who’s This?,” which was based on the time O’Neill had a fan encounter with none other than Britney Spearsand had no idea who she was. Basically, O’Neill isn’t exactly the best at knowing the identities of celebrities and is all of our parents and grandparents who can’t match a name to a famous face.

During the game, Meghan’s name popped up — and it was the only time he confidently gave the correct answer. Well, after hesitating for a split second, that is. He then shared a sweet little story about how she “grew up on the set” of his show, which ran from 1986 to 1997, and when Ellen asked how, he replied, “Her father was a camera operator.”

O’Neill added, “And she used to come on the set in a little Catholic school uniform. She was, like, 9. A little trivia.”

If she really was on the set often, we’re sure he has lots of other stories to share about Meghan, but he probably knows her dad will just spill them to a newspaper anyway. We kid. We hope.

Really, though, Ed likely doesn’t remember much more. Based on his “Who’s This?” skills, his memory isn’t great. During the three minutes, he couldn’t place Reese Witherspoon, thought Chris Hemsworth and Ryan Gosling were Jonas brothers, and mistook Beyoncé for a Kardashian. Oy. The Beyhive are probably still buzzing over that horrible blunder. He did know Ariana Grande right away, though, so that’s a good sign, and puts Ari in good company with Meg.
