Ed O’Neill and Britney Spears are not exactly besties. In fact, until three months ago, the two had never met. Maybe they crossed paths at an awards show or something but that’s the most, at best. Both are probably used to people approaching them, especially Britney, but when she spotted Ed at LAX the tables were turned and she was the starstruck fan.

O’Neill was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show talking about his role in Finding Dory, in which he plays a disgruntled (shocker) septapus, but Ellen really wanted to hear about the time he met the beautiful blonde singer with millions of fans.

“I was flying alone to Hawaii and I was waiting for my flight to board,” he recalled. “I saw a woman approaching me. And she came up and said, ‘Oh, Mr. O’Neill, I love Modern Family, and you’re my favourite on the show.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’m here, I’m the only one here.'”

Spears proceeded to ask him for a photo together and they went on their way. Cut to the following day, one tweet later and that photo, of Brit, Ed and his floppy hat, had racked up thousands of likes. He had no idea what all the fuss was about, until his manager and daughter Sophia (who called her dad a “moron”) told him who the young lady in the photo was.

“I didn’t know it was her!,” he revealed to the audience as the Twitter pic was displayed behind him. “Look at the look on my face. Do I look like I’m sitting with Britney Spears?”

Like Ellen said, “No one else taking a picture with Britney Spears would have that look on their face.” Aw. Basically every older gentleman. Who just made every one of her fans totally jealous.
