The feud between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun started over the weekend and continues to gain steam, what with reports that Swift has no interest in hearing anything Braun has to say despite claims that he wanted to talk it out privately. But with many in the industry taking sides, there’s one person who hadn’t spoken publicly about the drama: Taylor’s BFF Ed Sheeran. And because of his silence, Swifties came at him.
Poor Ed, just minding his own business. While other stars took to social media to either side with Scooter (clients like Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, as well as Ty Dolla $ign, Bieber’s wife, Hailey Baldwin, and Scooter’s own wife, Yael Cohen Braun) or Taylor (Halsey, Cara Delevingne, Camila Cabello, Todrick Hall, Cher, Brendon Urie and Iggy Azalea), Sheeran tried to stay out of it—publicly, at least. But that’s the thing; if you’re considered one of Taylor’s besties and haven’t come to her defence loudly and proudly, Swift’s fans will put a bullseye on your back. After Swifties came down hard on Ed—who currently has a hit out with Justin Bieber, one of Scooter’s biggest clients (though one really has nothing to do with the other)—many were thinking out loud why Sheeran hasn’t shown his support for Taylor.
That’s when one fan defended the British singer-songwriter, writing on Instagram: “Why don’t you leave him in peace with that Taylor thing? Just because he didn’t post anything doesn’t mean he is not supporting her, maybe he’s talking with her right now, who knows. You aren’t allowed to doubt their friendship just because he didn’t say anything on the social, ’cause they’re not real life. Maybe he’s the one who has supported her the most, because they’re best friends and he didn’t waste time writing on Instagram what he could have said directly to her.” And it was that supportive post that got Ed to break his silence.

So, Sheeran is there for Swift. Pfft, like there was any doubt. Of course, fans will still rag on him for keeping said support private and insist that Ed should use his influence to speak out but he’s making a personal decision to stay out of it. And if Taylor is any kind of friend, she’s probably fully supporting that choice, maybe even telling him to keep his head down. One thing’s for sure: this Taylor vs. Scooter rumble is only going to get more complicated as details continue to come out.
