In case there was any doubt as to whether Ed Sheeran still holds the title for being the nicest guy in music, the proof was evident at The West Edmonton Mall earlier this week.
Sheeran, who is currently on tour, happened to be in a record store when he overheard a 13-year-old Edmonton girl named Sydney Bourbeau singing his hit single “Thinking Out Loud” in the mall. Bourbeau was performing the tune for charity as part of the 2015 Play for Pets fundraiser concert put on by the Resonate Music School & Studio. Sheeran decided to surprise his young fan by hopping on stage to turn her performance into a magical duet and the surprise of a lifetime.
The 13-year-old said she first thought the person on stage was a technician coming to adjust her microphone. When she realized it was her idol standing next to her, the young teen was over the moon.
“I was like, should I stop? I didn’t want to stop, but I wanted to talk to him,” gushed Bourbeau. “This is, like, the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” How cute is that? The aspiring teen singer says she has loved Sheeran since his debut album in 2011.
Resonate Music School president Michael Cathrea says his heart melted during the performance. “That’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He happened to be there, she’s singing his song. It was amazing that she was actually able to keep it together and finish. It was shock, as if she had seen a ghost. I was so happy that he did that. It was incredible.”
