Get ready to see Eddie Murphy back on your screens and reporting for duty. The superstar is set to reprise his role as Axel Foley in a fourth installment of
Beverly Hills Cop, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. While there's been talk of another
Beverly Hills movie for a while, on Thursday
Deadline reported that Netflix had secured the rights from Paramount to move forward with the reboot, with 2020's
Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah also on board.Hitting the big screen in 1984, the original
Beverly Hills Cop caught audiences' attention with a blend of action and comedy, hot on the heels of Eddie Murphy's final season of
Saturday Night Live. Murphy stars as Axel Foley, a cop from Detroit who travels to Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of a childhood friend. The movie's sequels,
Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and
Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) subsequently follow Foley as he solves crime and stops bad guys (with a comedic twist, of course).Though there aren’t any details about the
Beverly Hills Cop 4 script yet, we think it's safe to say that the plot for the fourth installment of the franchise will follow along the same line.So far, fans who've been following the franchise have feelings ranging from “!!!” to... not so thrilled.
However, it seems undeniably fitting that a
Beverly Hills Cop reboot is in the works, as 2020 is bound to be known as a year dedicated to film and TV reboots. Murphy, who's known for his extensive filmography (though he’ll always be the voice of Donkey in
Shrek to us) is also currently working on
Coming 2 America, the sequel to the 1988 comedy
Coming to America. Funnily enough,
Coming 2 America was filming at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta earlier this month, right next to the set of of
Bad Boys For Life—ANOTHER huge sequel, starring everyone’s favourite IG funnyman Will Smith.Luckily for us, Uncle Will shared a video of both casts meeting up on the 'gram.
We have our fingers crossed that
Beverly Hills Cop 4 will have us LOLing just as much as Murphy, Uncle Will, and the rest of their crew.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: Will Smith was the food truck genie on the ‘Aladdin’ set[/video_embed]
