All aboard the crazy train!
The city of Edmonton released an interesting new commercial for its public transit service. Unlike other boring publically-funded promotional ads you’ve may have seen in the past though, this one has the production quality of a Hollywood movie.
Set to the backdrop of intense, orchestral music, we see a group of gleeful passengers pile into a bus as a deep-voiced narrator lists off the benefits of riding in the city’s “COOL” transit vehicles. They include membership privileges, the ability to choose your own seat, personal climate control (i.e. cracking a window), extra leg room, and our personal favourite, “luxurious seating.”
Plus, take a look at the awesome drivers at the helm of these magical bus fleets:
Impressive as this all is, our personal experience with public transit in any city is usually one loaded more with “vomit-stained seats” and “non-stop delays” than these luxurious features. But hey, half of the commercial’s purpose is just to get people talking.
“We’re not only trying to get across some tongue-in-cheek points about what it’s like to take the bus…but if we can also spark some people’s interest and curiosity about taking the bus, there’s actual tangible benefits city wide,” Edmonton Transit System spokesperson Jennifer Laraway told Metro News.
The ad was first shown in select Cineplex theatres back in May, but it only started getting real attention last weekend.
Next stop: Crazy Town.
