In 1998, Lindsay Lohan pulled double duty as a set of long-lost twins who meet at summer camp and conspire to get their parents back together in The Parent Trap. An update of the 1961 classic starring Haley Mills, the new version featured actor Elaine Hendrix as the woman standing in the twins' way: the young and beautiful girlfriend of their father, played by Dennis Quaid. After Quaid announced his engagement this week, Hendrix responded in the most Meredith Blake way.Quaid, 65, revealed on Monday that he had proposed to his 26-year-old girlfriend Laura Savoie, with Savoie accepting. Hendrix congratulated the pair on social media but was quick to remind Quaid of what happened when her character tried to marry Quaid's in The Parent Trap. There was the whole issue of waking up in the middle of the lake on a blow-up air mattress. Twinning! Hendrix’s joke is about as perfect as it gets, but things get kinda weird when we remember that her character Meredith was also 26 when she became engaged to Quaid’s fictional Nick. We know this, because looking back on the film as adults, we can now see how shocking it was that Meredith was 26 and that put together. Want to hear how things can get even weirder? Quaid has 11-year-old twin boys who are the same age that Lohan’s Annie and Hallie were in The Parent Trap. Huh. Maybe Savoie really should look out for those twins. This isn’t the first time that Hendrix has used her Twitter account to make our Parent Trap fan dreams come true. The actor has previously played up her much-disliked evil stepmother character, even using a picture of Meredith Blake as her avatar. It is a great hat. As for Quaid’s latest engagement, which we’re sure is built on love and trust and definitely not at all doomed a la The Parent Trap, the actor told Extra that he proposed to Savoie after months of dating. The pair were in Hawaii to support his upcoming movie Midway when Quaid popped the question to the University of Texas PhD student. “I had the ring in my pocket… It has been kind of a month-and-a-half plan… I wanted it to be private,” said Quaid, adding “She was actually taking a selfie of us, and I put the ring in front and said, 'Will you marry me?' — and then she fell down.” Quaid has previously been married four times, including his 1991 to 2001 marriage to fellow actor Meg Ryan.
