Yes, there’s something glamorous about the idea of sleeping in satin and silky PJs are A-OK on the red carpet now, but jammies (no matter how stylish) in the presence of The Duke of Cambridge has to be against royal protocol, right?
Goulding is, in her own right, British royalty (she may or may not have dated Prince Harry, after all). She’s also a fashionista, and one to whom many look for outfit ideas. That aside, and even though a silk pajama top can sometimes pull double duty as a regular shirt, this two-piece is better suited to the bedroom than a public event.
So, another week of red carpet events has come and gone, and we find ourselves yet again questioning the fashion choices of our most beloved stars. Joining Ellie this week is Jameela Jamil who looked like a Halloween hangover, Charlize Theron who wore a wedding dress to an event that was distinctly not her wedding and even *gasp* Helen Mirren who made a rare fashion faux pas.
See all that and more in this edition of Worst Looks of the Week below.
Ellie Goulding wore silk pajamas to a royal charity event
Jameela JamilTights are major for 2019, and are an easy way to score some quick fashion cred. But regrettably for Jameela, her sequined, padded shouldered, jack-o'-lantern-inspired dress is detracting from those trendy polka dots.Getty Images
Fran DrescherThis is A LOT! It’s like Fran Drescher was trying to impersonate a red curtain. She succeeded if she was. The baggy and flared pants, plus the lustrous, velvety texture of the red material are definitely hard not to look at, but that’s not a good thing. Getty Images
Karolina KurkovaWe’re confused—how is the bottom of Karolina’s shirt peeking out of both her jacket and skirt? We’re digging the pre-excitement for the upcoming festive season (A.K.A. sequins on sequins) but we just can’t get over the undershirt-skirt.Getty Images
Ellie GouldingThe drop in the shoulder of this satin top is v cool, but it’s not quite enough to elevate the outfit out of the sleepwear category. Wake us up when you’ve found something better to wear, Ellie. Getty Images
Charlize TheronWe’re not sure if Charlize is posing with a leg extension, about to sit on her dress’ pouf, or using it as a kickstand? It’s unfortunate, but this usual glamour gal won’t be winning any such honor for her outfit at the 2019 Glamour Women Of The Year Awards.Getty Images
Yara ShahidiIf things started to heat up at the 2019 LACMA Art + Film Gala, Yara could have kept cool and carried on by using the top of her dress as a folding fan. Smart. But not so flattering.Getty Images
Nicole ScherzingerNicole Scherzinger was out looking like an absolute siren in this LBD, but the thigh-high, glittering, zip-up high-heel boots probably should have retired along with the Pussycat Dolls. Getty Images
Helen MirrenThe dame of all dames! It’s never not upsetting to include Helen on our list, but we can’t look past the lace peasant top with its visible undershirt. There’s a bottom half to this look, but we’ll never even get to consider it.Getty Images
Sienna MillerMs. Miller can ultimately pull off anything, but even she looks borderline silly in this oversized silk pajama set. The long coat looks comfy, but the pants look like a tripping hazard. Getty Images
AnnaLynne McCordThere’s something about this black dress that’s making us think of a certain desert-dwelling ungulate. Oh, that’s right, it’s the giant camel hump of fabric protruding from the shoulder. Unless you’re storing water in there, get rid of it.Getty Images
Audrina PatridgeAudrina ventured down from The Hills to attend a movie premiere that’s all about snow and ice and general winter-ness. Naturally, she wore a yellow beach dress that’s pretty much the epitome of summer. Nice. Getty Images
Busy PhilippsBusy’s chandelier earrings match perfectly with her silver ice-like heels, but this dress has too much going on with the old timey collar, modern baggy fit and big (alien floral?) pattern. She looks like a haunted antique doll. Getty Images
Rita OraCall Brendan Fraser! Call Tom Cruise! It’s happening again! Wait, false alarm. It’s just Rita Ora in a beaded jumpsuit. Her outfit does look mummified tho, right?Getty Images
Helena Bonham CarterDid Helena knowingly attach scraggly boas to her tulle ballerina skirt? If so, why didn’t she go for ‘fresh and full’ rather than ‘stray cats’? It’s like every day is Halloween for this woman. Getty Images
Olivia WildeWe can’t decide if Ms. Wilde’s white gown with green accents looks like it belongs in one of those extravagant floral Dior campaigns or at a Nickelodeon event. It’s a toss up between glamorous and gooey. Getty Images
Jane SeymourJane’s fondness for silver here makes you wonder if she’s heading out to battle vampires afterward. It’s kina cool, tbh, but we would’ve paired it with heels of a different shade on the colour wheel. Getty Images
Lizzy CaplanSheer mesh tops are chic and a perfect opportunity to showcase creative outfit combinations. Like this one, except not really. The sheer body suit clashes with the black sheen of the dress. Perhaps if the sheer material was limited to just he top. Then again, perhaps not.Getty Images
