To know Bridget Jones is to love her, and relate to her, though hopefully not like this. She’ll be back on the big screen this fall, torn between two men once again. Sort of. Sadly, Bridget is no longer with Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) but she appears to have found a new man. A dreamy man called Jack Qwant. (Side note: poor Patrick Dempsey will never, ever lose the “dreamy” descriptor, will he?) All seems lovely until she learns she’s pregnant — but not sure who the father is.

Turns out, neither does Bridget’s portrayer, Renee Zellweger. She revealed that they filmed three different endings and she has no idea if the daddy is Mark’s …

… or Jack’s.

“They kept us guessing, yeah,” Zellweger told Today. “Because you never know people with cell phones and talking, and I might slip up and tell my mom, ‘Oh you know when she ends up with …'”

And while she reiterates that she doesn’t know “what they’re going to do,” Zellweger acknowledges Bridget doesn’t have the roughest life.

“Either way it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a terribly difficult ending for her, is it?” she said.

Seems in keeping with the first two Bridget movies. The beloved character winds up in mortifying situations that she struggles to get out of, not to mention all the obstacles thrown at her, but by the end she always comes out on top. So whether it’s Mark’s baby (aw, he’s loved her from the beginning) or Jack’s (gorgeous and charming — and hopefully not in a Daniel Cleaver kind of way), Bridget and her baby will be just fine.
