If you, like us, have difficulty swallowing the massive lump that forms in your throat whenever one of Sarah McLachlan‘s BC SPCA commercials comes on—but yet also can’t bring yourself to change the channel—then you may be pleased to know that you’re not alone.

McLachlan recently revealed in a video interview that even she still can’t watch the videos without tearing up. “I can’t watch them. It just… It kills me,” she said in an interview with Makers.

The spots couple McLachlan’s famous mournful and soulful songs with images and videos of the sweetest, saddest, most cuddle-worthy rescue animals you can imagine. Then McLachlan comes on screen to implore you to help out. Cue the sobbing.

At least, with McLachlan’s confession, we know we’re not alone in our suffering…unlike those poor, poor abused animals. Although, McLachlan’s tear-jerking ads generated over $30 million for the SPCA, so surely, the puppies are happier now. Tell us the puppies are happier now, please. Please! Oh God, the puppies!!!
