A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
Actually, new Star Wars stuff for Canadians to enjoy won’t be that far away at all. D23 Expo wrapped up this weekend, and one of Disney chairman Robert Iger’s biggest announcements was that all things Star Wars are about to invade both Disney World and Disneyland. That’s right, that AT-AT Imperial Walker standing all by its lonesome in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is about to be joined by a whole lot more — from both the good and dark sides.
Orlando and Anaheim will each boast 14-acre Star Wars-themed lands on their already-expansive properties and will feature humanoids, aliens and droids. Iger called it the company’s “largest single-themed land expansion ever” while concept art of TIE fighters soaring over planetary vistas flashed behind him.
He added that some of the attractions will include a Millennium Falcon ride and, yes, there will be a Cantina band playing that tune you’ll never get out of your head.
“Everything we create will be part of our storytelling,” said Iger, who added every store employee in this galaxy would be dressed in true Star Wars garb. “Nothing in the land will be out of character or stray from the mythology.”
Guests will “truly become a part of their favourite Star Wars stories” and the worlds will transport them to “a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
No word yet on when this massive project gets underway, but we think it’s safe to say that the the news has awakened the Force in all of us.
