Committing to “eating healthy” doesn’t mean that your diet needs to be boring, unvaried and bland. In fact, there are a tonne of options out there for keeping your food balanced and healthy that don’t compromise taste. Now, you don’t need fancy equipment to eat healthy, but there are certain appliances you might want to invest in to make some of the “healthy” recipes out there a little easier. Here are all the tools you need for success in your healthy kitchen.
A good blender, obviously
Despite what Instagram might indicate, blenders are good for more than just smoothies. You can make soups, sauces, sorbets, cauliflower rice, frozen banana ice cream, chocolate avocado pudding and wine slushies for when it’s time for a bit of a treat. The possibilities are endless.
There are some great blenders out there, but if you want one that’s going to do your blending without waking the neighbours, the Hamilton Beach Quiet Blender will do just that. If you’re just interested in a smoothie-maker, the Magic Bullet is tried and true.
Looking for a low-carb alternative to pasta? Look no further than spiralized zucchini. Don’t stop there though, you can spiral all sorts of firm veggies like carrots, beets or cucumber and use the same machine to make thin slices of any fruit or vegetable. Get the perfect cuts for salads, make veggies look more interesting to your kids or just play with your food. A Nutritional Scale
If you’re really jumping on board the health train and want to know exactly how many calories you’re eating in a day, a food scale that calculates calories based on weight might be worth the investment for you. A Measuring Colander
Speaking of portion control, it’s easy to get carried away on the veggies and fruit with the assumption that as long as you’re eating healthy food, you can eat a lot of it. Smart serving sizes are still important even when you’re eating produce, so to make things a little simpler, pick up a measuring colander. A colander like this one lets you measure and wash your fresh produce, beans, chickpeas or whatever else you need to all in one little cup. Great for recipes or just measuring out your crudités.
Steaming is one of the healthiest ways to cook produce and all it takes is water and something to keep the food out of it (we’re not boiling things here). A Crock Pot or Multi-Cooker
Often the reason we end up settling for an unhealthy meal of takeout is that we’re too tired to cook. Crock Pots and multi-cookers eliminate that problem by making cooking as simple as dumping ingredients in a pot and letting it do its thing. Crock Pots are cheaper (and have been a staple for decades) but multi-cookers are more versatile and have added features for different types of cooking. You’re seriously never going to want to eat out again.
