About four months ago, the Philadelphia Eagles had a stunning victory against the New England Patriots in a little televised event called the Super Bowl. Philadelphia is known for it’s city-destroying parties after sporting events and this one was no different. People climbed poles, drove ATVs around the streets and one man even ate horse excrement for some reason.

Basically, Eagles fans LOVE to party, but there’s apparently one pretty high profile party they’d rather avoid. That’s the one at the White House–thrown by current President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. It is tradition for the American president to host the winning sports teams of major championships at the White House, but since Trump took office about 500 days ago (but who’s counting), a number of teams — including Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors last season — have opted out of their invites.

The 2018 White House Super Bowl Party was scheduled for Tuesday, but a few days earlier the team informed Trump’s people that only about 10 of the 80 people invited from the franchise would be attending. That’s quite the snub. Rather than take the hit and host the party anyway, the Commander in Chief chose to un-invite the whole team and cancel the event entirely. Which is totally the responsible thing to do.

In a barrage of tweets, POTUS explained that the change in programming was because the Eagles didn’t show respect for the military and the flag, referring to the ongoing NFL anthem protesting controversy. A compelling point, however, none of the Eagles players were among those who chose to kneel for the anthem last season. Critics suggest that Trump’s argument is just to probe a discussion that plays well with his base.

Instead of the original Super Bowl party, Trump chose to host a National Anthem Party featuring your favourite American hits like “The Star Spangled Banner,” “God Bless America” and “other wonderful music celebrating our Country.”

Yes, Donald Trump hosted a national anthem sing-along. Except, it looked like the prez himself might have needed a karaoke machine. As the choir behind him belted out “God Bless America” — a phrase used by Trump at least once a day — POTUS seemed to fumble along and barely know the words. That’s really unfortunate when the whole point of the event was to prove how patriotic you are.

You better believe people noticed. And they were NOT letting the president get away with it.

With the NBA finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors underway, people are wondering if whichever team comes out on top will accept their inevitable White House invitation. LeBron took that one for both teams. He says that no matter which team wins the NBA title, no one will be going to the White House.

Does that mean we can look forward to another sing-along this summer?
