If you’ve been watching TV lately and finding yourself undeniably drawn to newcomer Ruby Rose, rest assured, you are not alone. As Stella, the sultry, tattooed Litchfield inmate who takes a liking to Piper (Taylor Schilling), 29-year-old Rose has become the breakout star of “Orange Is The New Black”, making men and women everywhere simultaneously pine after her and want to be her best friend. And why would they?
Oh, right. Because of that.
And that. Hoo! Is it getting hot in here?
So, like so many before you, you’re probably looking to find out anything and everything about the stunning Australian actress. Well, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
She came in second in an Australian model search
Rose’s first foray into fame was in 2002 when she entered a model search for the Australian girls’ magazine Girlfriend. Although she placed second, she later became engaged to Catherine McNeil – the woman who came in first. Talk about not being a sore loser! (Rose and McNeil’s relationship later ended, however.)
She has a lot of tattoos. Like, a lot of them
The body ink you saw on Rose on “OITNB”? It’s all real.
There are entire websites dedicated to Rose’s tattoos, which include one of Leonardo the Ninja Turtle on her arm, the word “LIFE” on her left wrist, and a koi fish on her upper right arm.
She even has the Maybelline slogan tattooed on herself
Luckily for Rose (and the rest of the world), her modeling career didn’t end there, and in 2011 she was named a brand ambassador for Maybelline New York Australia. The partnership was so successful, in fact, that the beauty later had the famous words “Maybe she’s born with it” tattooed on her collarbone – a great addition to her current collection of ink.
She’s engaged to Roald Dahl’s granddaughter
After a few other romances and at least one other rumoured engagement, Rose found love with Phoebe Dahl – yes, the granddaughter of the beloved children’s book author. Oh, and the couple is totally cute on Instagram, like, all the time:
She really, really loves her dogs
As if Rose and Dahl weren’t already adorable enough, the pair frequently posts photos of their two dogs, Ru and Chance. Rose rescued the latter pup from being euthanized, and thank goodness for that, because now we get delightful photos and videos of Rose and her beloved pets on Instagram.

She identifies as gender fluid
Although Rose came out as a lesbian at age 12, in 2014 she released a personal short film that revealed she now identifies as gender fluid (though she prefers to keep using female pronouns).
“As a little kid, I was convinced that I was a guy. I used to bind with ACE bandages, which is really, really bad for you,” Rose told The Guardian in 2014. “I used to sleep on my chest because I thought it would stop me from getting boobs. I used to pray to God that I wouldn’t get breasts.”
She kinda looks like Justin Bieber (and she knows it)
With her short-cropped hair, soft facial features, and plenty of tattoos on her arms, quite a few people have compared Rose to a certain male Canadian pop star with similar attributes. But the actress doesn’t seem too bothered about it – on June 20, she posed for a selfie with the Biebz, captioning it “twinning.” Wait, which one is which?
Now there’s a new place you can see her
So you’ve seen her on TV, you’ve looked at every Instagram photo, and you’re yearning for more exposure to Rose. Well, we have good news: she recently filmed a role on the first season of the new sci fi series “Dark Matter,” currently airing Friday nights on Space. But sorry, Toronto residents; although the series films in city, don’t get your hopes up that you may see her in your neighbourhood: she filmed her part back in March.
