There are thousands of celebrity impersonators, some who look eerily like the famous person they are pretending to be. Others, however, share one tiny feature that kinda-sorta makes them resemble a star, be it a big butt, same hairstyle or similar nose or eyes. This dude, however, has none of those things so you’re forgiven if you didn’t guess that he is a stand-in for Jim Carrey. Yet he was able to not only attend an awards show in the Czech Republic but he was also invited on stage.
The organizers of the Česky Lev awards — which is essentially the Czech Oscars — clearly made a dumb (and dumber) move when they brought the look-nothing-alike on stage and showered him with confetti.
The day after the ceremony, members of the Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) maintained it was definitely Carrey in attendance and the show’s host, Lucie Vyborna, told a Prague newspaper that “of course the real Jim Carrey was on the stage.”
Eventually the CFTA accepted the blunder and issued a statement to The Guardian. “We were the victims of an elaborate hoax. We communicated with the supposed Hollywood actor’s agents and he came with bodyguards and an interpreter so it all appeared very professional with nothing suggesting it was a hoax.”
The impersonator was identified as Hari Zinhasovic and for the record, the con job wasn’t that elaborate. Because anyone with semi-decent vision would know that wasn’t the star of The Truman Show. Sure, Carrey’s known for being the man of a thousand faces but we don’t think this is one of them.
What did the real Jim Carrey think about this trickery? He got a kick out of it, of course. Perhaps next year, for laughs, he’ll really make an appearance at the show. They’ll never make this mistake again.
Look! I’m more interesting than the Oscars while plunked on my couch eating chips. MY SPIRIT WILL NOT BE IGNORED! ;^P http://t.co/ey6CnmbwEE
