There’s an old saying in sports that says to never take your eye off the ball, but they might want to throw “bat” in there too.
A kid who was watching the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves spring training game this Saturday was distracted by his phone when Danny Ortiz’s bat slipped out of his hands and into the crowd. The bat was literally an inch away from the boy’s face when the man sitting next to him reached out to block the projectile just in the nick of time. Somehow, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review photographer Christopher Horner managed to capture the split-second moment on camera:

Talk about a strike out indeed!
It’s unclear whether or not the man and the boy are related, but we do know this isn’t the first time someone has been distracted at a baseball game:
The moral of the story? Keep your eyes on the game, and not on your phone.
