After two years of separation, things are really over between popstar Fergie and ex-husband Josh Duhamel. According to TMZ, Fergie filed for a divorce on Friday, May 31. This news comes after the pair first separated in 2017, at which time they released a joint statement. Speaking to People Magazine in 2017 the couple said, “With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year. To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family.”
Fergie and Duhamel first started dating in 2004 and were later married on January 10, 2009. The couple share a five-year-old son Axl, whom they remain committed to co-parenting.
Though the musician and actor have been separated for some time, they continue to speak positively about one another in the press. Duhamel publicly defended Fergie after her highly -criticized performance of the national anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game, praising the singer while appearing on The Ellen Show and chastising Golden State Warriors player Draymond Green for his reaction to her efforts.
Following the pair’s announced separation, Duhamel quietly dated actor Eliza Gonzalez for five months and was recently spotted with a new woman in May. According to E!, Fergie was supportive of her ex moving on, with a source saying “She truly wanted him to put himself out there. She just isn’t ready to do that for herself.”
