Technology has been growing by leaps and bounds as of late, and with it, mankind’s potential to do great and awesome things. You know, like stem cell research, space exploration, supercomputing and, most recently, face swapping Nicolas Cage into all the best movie moments.
Like most emerging technologies dating as far back as the printing press, this face-swapping program was initially used for porn, with a Reddit user known as ‘deepfakes’ swapping adult stars’ faces for those of celebrities. The free desktop application, FakeApp, can be downloaded for free on this Reddit thread, though we’re sure Nic Cage would appreciate it if you didn’t. The 54-year-old actor has appeared in over 88 movies in his diverse career and has become a favourite Internet punchline and source of many a meme, so, he’s no stranger to seeing his face on other people’s bodies.
But up until now, it’s just mostly relegated to still images–now he’s got this face-swapping video technology to contend with! It’s just like the 1997’s Face Off, starring, you know it, Cage and John Travolta, only in the context of every other movie. Which is to say… disturbing? Well, here, you be the judge:
Allow us to present, an even creepier T-1000 from Terminator II.
Here he is looking oh-so dreamy in Man of Steel.
Run, Nicolas! Run!
Not even the classics like Sean Connery’s 007 are safe from the Cage treatment.
How about Indiana Jones? Or is this National Treasure? Now we’re just confused.
This is where we’re at in 2018, Cage-ifying ALL the movies. In fairness, even when he’s bad–see Ghost Rider, Wicker Man, The Weather Man, etc.–he’s still highly entertaining. So maybe it’s not such a bad thing. Can we all agree to keep him out of the porn, though? Or is it too late for that? We don’t dare search to find out.
