We were beside ourselves when Daniel Craig confirmed to Stephen Colbert (after months of evading questions) that he was going to be taking on the role of 007 again in ‘Bond 25.’ After speculation about Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and even women (gasp!) taking over the role of the age-old spy, it was quite a relief (but also a bit anticlimactic to be honest) to learn that one of our favourite Bonds would be reprising the role again. This week, more big Bond news came to light when details about the plot for the next movie were leaked to Page Six.
According to the source, the next movie doesn’t start quite as you might expect. Looks like Craig’s 007 won’t be busting bad guys and saving the free world, but in happily-wedded bliss, presumably with Spectre Bond-girl, Léa Seydoux’s Dr. Madeleine Swann.
The ‘Hollywood Insider’ says that ‘Bond quits the secret service, and he’s in love and gets married,’ but during the course of the film, ‘his wife then gets killed.’ Then the action picks up as Bond sets out to avenge the murder of his wife in a Taken-like scenario.
This isn’t the first time that the super spy has considered settling down and leaving his life of gadgets and narrow escapes behind. According to a Bond fan blog, Ian Flemming–the author of the Bond novels–had the character talk about leaving the secret service more than once. In fact, ‘In both the book and film versions of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Bond is married to Tracy Draco, only to have her brutally murdered by [Bond archnemesis] Blofeld in the final, and tragic, denouement,’ the blog says. Wait, are we recycling storylines here?
Knowing the franchise, we don’t have any reason to worry. Plus, it looks like Adele (A.K.A. the best 007 songstress the world has ever known) may be back to do the song for the new movie. All this uncertainty is shaping up into a fantastic (albeit familiar) looking film.
The movie currently has a release date of November 8, 2019 though, so we’ve still got a ways to go before we’ll see domestic Bond and hear another Adele-written 007 masterpiece.
