Want to be more efficient in the kitchen? You’re in luck. We asked food expert Mary Berg to show us easy hacks that can save us precious time.

FRESHEN BREAD WITH WATER

How do you freshen up old bread so it can still make for a good sandwich? Splash the bread with the water and bring it to the oven

SPEED AND NEATEN UP CHOPPING HERBS AND GARLIC

Adding a pinch of salt to the cutting board when mincing garlic or herbs helps so much. It just adds a bit more abrasion which helps chop. It also adds flavour!

PUT HERBS IN ICE CUBE TRAY

If you want to keep herbs or even chopped garlic longer, take some of the chopped herbs and garlic and mix it with oil then placing in ice cube trays to freeze.

MICROPLANE GINGER AND GARLIC

If chopping garlic isn’t in your wheel house or you just don’t want to add in that salt, using a rasp is the best way to get garlic super finely minced in a pinch!

THE BEST TOOL FOR QUICKLY SLICING AND SHREDDING

A food processor is the best tool for quickly slicing and shredding. Grate or slice Brussels sprouts for a slaw, cooked red beets for a beet and goat cheese salad (bonus of keeping your hands clean too!), or even grate some zucchini or carrots for zucchini carrot loaf.
