The kids are calling it #MannequinChallenge, and it involves groups of people striking a pose and holding it, while somebody else weaves in and out of the frozen crowd with a video camera, all the while with Rae Sremmurd’s ‘Black Beatles’ playing in the background.
It creates a stopped-in-time scene and allows the viewer to explore it by moving around the scene in 360 degrees…you know, like in the movies (Matrix, X-Men, etc.).
It all started at a high school in Florida–the first #MannequinChallenge tag popped up on Twitter on October 26th, with a video of the clever crew of teens attached. And if there’s one thing we know about the Internet and its inhabitants, it’s that they love a good challenge (remember the ice bucket challenge? Planking? The Harlem Shake?).
Since then, everyone from school sports teams to celebrities have gotten their freeze on. Even Kelly Rowland managed to snag former Destiny’s Child mates Beyoncé and Michelle Williams to make one, and Hillary Clinton posted her #MannequinChallenge leading up to election day.
We trolled the internet (193,000 posts and climbing) and picked out the five best real-world executions of the Mannequin Challenge we could find.
Think you can put together a better video? Put your hashtag where your mouth is. #MannequinChallenge!
The (alleged) Originals from Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Not bad, not bad at all, guys.

This baseball team hit a home run (yes, it’s so good that it deserves a sports pun) with their version.

But if we’re picking favourite sports versions of the challenge, this cheerleading squad in Texas deserves serious points for holding these intense moves. How!?
