Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean you have to put your travel plans on hold. And if you’re looking for a romantic getaway, you don’t have to go all the way to Paris to find a little romance.

Travel journalist Oneika Raymond shares her top five romantic destinations (and you probably haven’t considered them).

Montreal, Canada

This Canadian city has a certain je ne sais quoi! It’s European feel is great for lovers. You can take a horse drawn carriage ride through the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal or kayak/stroll along Lachine Canal. Head out for a romantic date at Le Rouge Gorge, the renowned wine bar, and then head to a jazz club or one of the city’s many speakeasy afterwards.

Mexico City

People typically think of beach vacations, but Mexico City is great for a couple’s getaway. It’s a world class city for culture, arts, stunning architecture and scenery. You can take in a performance at the Palacio de Bellas or stroll hand-in-hand in the whimsical Bosque De Chapultepec. Finish it off with dinner for two in the upscale Polanco area.

Iceland

Iceland is a great place for adventurous couples. It offers stunning epic landscapes like Gulfoss, and Skaftafell waterfalls really set the mood. Here, you can do a glacier hike with your partner. Of course, the Blue Lagoon is also a romantic backdrop.

Colorado, U.S.

This U.S. state is great for couples who like relaxation and/or adventure. Visit Rocky Mountain National Park and keep your eyes peeled for bull elk from mid-August to October. You should also check out the Hot Springs at Pagosa Springs Resort and Spa for a little R&R.

Orlando, Florida

Be a kid again with your partner as you visit all of the amusement parks Orlando has to offer. Stay at the Loews Portofino hotel, which has a romantic Italian feel. Mandara Spa is a great place to get a couple’s treatment. For entertainment, check out Universal CityWalk to grab dinner and drinks.
